Planning Applications

Keeping an eye on planning applications

With the Government relaxing planning controls, property owners and developers can see attractive opportunities for making substantial profits by turning retail premises into residential accommodation. In some instances, such a change is uncontroversial but in other cases it can be seriously damaging to the neighbourhood. by degrading the shopping facilities and the shopping experience of residents and visitors.   Any retail premises in a shopping centre which are converted into residential use create dead zones for shoppers and weaken the integrity of the high street.

With this in mind, we are going to keep an eye on planning applications being submitted to New Forest District Council. Ringwood is a market town with a thriving shopping centre. Given the planned increase in population, Ringwood needs more rather than fewer retail offerings.
